Hear from the artist
I found out when I came to New Zealand that many beautiful things could be made from Harakeke.
A few years later I had the opportunity to study flax weaving at Te Wananga O Aotearoa. My teachers were Gerry Karekare, Meleta Bennet and Karmen Thomson.
After my graduation in 2011, I was invited to keep on learning at Te Puia weaving school. During the three years I spent there, I learnt how to make piupiu, pake, taniko and kakahu.
Weaving is now part of my life and I still learn something new every day.
