All students that visit Waitomo will learn new things and interesting topics including history, geology, biology, behind the land, caves and more! Take in your surroundings and have an engaging experience. We can tailor programs to suit the curriculum, so your student gets a chance to gain knowledge outside the classroom.

Sustainability:

We take sustainability seriously and we care for our caves as they are precious to the Ruapuha Uekaha Hapū and Aotearoa, New Zealand. Therefore, we understand the importance of our responsibility to uphold the Taiki promise. We even have a solar-powered cave! Culture:

Caves and Glowworms are just the start of what you can learn at Waitomo. When you dive deeper you will find that it is rich in Maori heritage and culture. In particular, discover more about Maori history and why it is important to us at Waitomo. We have heaps of knowledge to share including myths, legends, and stories around each cave and how they came to be. Fun fact: There are descendants of Chief Tane Tinorau, the original explorer of the caves that may be your tour guide!
